Are You (Unknowingly) Sabotaging Your Health?
One thing I’ve learned through years of coaching is that knowing what to do isn’t usually the problem. Most people already know they should exercise, eat better, sleep well, and look after themselves. The harder question is: why aren’t you consistently doing it?
Sometimes, without realising it, we create obstacles that keep us stuck. We skip a workout because we’re tired, reach for food when we’re stressed, or tell ourselves we’ll start again on Monday. Do it often enough and it becomes a pattern.
I’ve found that these behaviours often come from what feels familiar and comfortable. Change asks us to do something different, and different can feel uncomfortable. It’s much easier to return to old habits, even when we know they’re taking us further away from the health we want.
That’s why awareness is so important. Instead of criticising yourself when you slip up, get curious about why it happened. Once you recognise the patterns that keep pulling you backwards, you can start putting things in place to change them.
Three Actions I Recommend
Notice one behaviour that regularly takes you away from your health goals and ask, “Why do I keep doing this?”
Look for the trigger behind it. Is it stress, tiredness, boredom, your environment, or simply an old routine?
Decide what you’ll do differently the next time that trigger appears, even if it’s only one small action.
