Most people I coach don’t have a knowledge problem. You already know vegetables are good for you, protein matters, and living on processed snacks and late-night wine works against you.
The real hurdle isn’t knowing what to do, it’s Willingness.
Before any diet plan can work, you have to answer the honest behavioural questions:
If you want to protect your muscle and stamina, are you genuinely willing to prioritise protein at every meal?
If alcohol is quietly sabotaging your sleep, recovery, or waistline, are you willing to cut back?
If late evenings are where your best intentions unravel, are you willing to change your environment so the healthy choice becomes the path of least resistance?
I can design the most scientifically sound nutrition plan in the world, but it’s completely useless if you aren’t willing to live it.
Fueling Your PerformanceSpan
After 50, nutrition has to be about more than the bathroom scales. It’s about protecting your PerformanceSpan—the number of years you get to stay strong, sharp, resilient, and physically capable. You aren’t 30 anymore, and that’s fine. But holding onto lean muscle, recovering from demanding workdays, and keeping your energy steady requires a deliberate approach.
Keep it simple and focus on what actually moves the needle:
Anchor every meal with protein: Muscle is your functional armour as you age. Ensure breakfast, lunch, and dinner each feature a solid, high-quality protein source.
Fuel your daily performance: Skipping meals during chaotic workdays only leads to afternoon brain fog, caffeine crashes, and low-willpower evening binges.
Design your environment: Stop testing your willpower when you walk into the kitchen exhausted at 8 PM. Clear out the friction and keep quality foods within easy reach.
Ditch the all-or-nothing mindset: Life includes dinners out, holidays, and busy travel weeks. Resilience isn’t about eating perfectly; it’s about getting right back on track at the very next meal.
Three Actions for This Week
Check your willingness: Pick one habit holding you back and ask yourself honestly if you’re ready to adjust it.
Prioritise protein first: Add a meaningful protein source to every main plate.
Fix one environmental trigger: Remove one friction point in your kitchen to make healthy eating effortless tomorrow.
